After looking at the graph, I was surprised to see the crime rate higher in the 80’s and early 90’s than it is today. Considering the constant information mass spread by the media, I assumed US crimes was currently at an all-time high. One of the main social institution that is driving the misconception that crime rate must be at its highest right now in the United States is the news, media, and well as social media outlets. The more someone follows media crime reports the more they are going to think crime is at an all-time high. Social media is leading the misconception since it is not controlled or regulated, and anything can be posted rather its true or not. Most Social Media platforms use an algorithm that allows its members to see post from sites or posters that most common interact with (such as likes, follows, comments, etc.). So, if a person is constantly checking, following, likening, etc. post from news feeds, that is what they are going to see the most.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
