Iris R. Hill Fall 2019 BMAL 702 Professor Clifton Thacker Week 5: Discussion Board Forum Adaptive, Followership, and Team Leadership Theories November 17, 2019 There are many leadership theories that discuss or examine how people adjust or change to new situations or environments. Adaptive leadership is a theory that focuses on motivating people to adapt, or to deal or face problems, challenges or changes (Northouse, 2019, p. 257). The workload, team members, customers and resources are constantly changing, so leadership and management styles must adapt accordingly. The most successful leaders adapt easily to changing environments and utilizes the right approach for the right situation. Poor leaders tend to do the opposite and fail to make appropriate adjustments in dynamic situations resulting in disorder and confusion. Clearly articulating the mission intent and allowing the team to execute is critical, even though they must be well-equipped and properly motivated to navigate significant change. An article by Doyle, A. (2017) observed adaptive leadership utilizing organizational learning theory in the situation of a financial services organization's post-crisis experiences. The researcher discovered that upcoming research on leadership programs would be valuable if it were aimed toward various levels within organizations instead of using a 'one size fits all' approach. In Merida (2015), the prophet Elisha used adaptive leadership toward his followers. Elisha was able to motivate and encourage his people in various difficult situations
