2 MOTIVATING YOUR WORKFORCE The manager-employee relationship is by far one of the most important aspects of a successful business. Managerial duties include but are not limited to the responsibilities of employee commitment and company culture. In order to be successful in driving employee commitment, managers must have the leadership, communication, and human skills necessary to cultivate a healthy and productive relationship between manager and employee. Managers must also create a positive and enjoyable work environment that enables employees to thrive. When managers perform these duties, a competitive and motivated workforce emerges.

3 MOTIVATING YOUR WORKFORCE Motivating your Workforce A good business can be compared to a well-oiled machine with many moving parts. They have departments and operations that must work efficiently to produce a viable organization. A talented management team and their ability to keep employees committed is a vital part of this machine. Managers must be strong and effectively communicate with their subordinates and equivalents. They must also display exceptional human skills and be able to keep a positive work culture or transform one that is toxic. These roles are part of what creates a competitive advantage for a business through its employees. The advantage is formed because the workforce is smarter, better trained, more motivated, and more committed to the organization (Williams, p 22).
