Effect of Oxygen on Seed GerminationPurpose:To design a lab to determine the effects of one environmental factor on the germinationof a Lima bean seed. Background:A seed is an embryo of a plant within a protective shell waiting for the right conditions to start to germinate. The embryo is surrounded by nutrients needed to start growing into a grown plant. However, the seed needs three important factors in order to start its growth. Itneeds oxygen, water, and a suitable temperature where it’s not too hot or cold. Without even one of these factors, the seed will not germinate. However, in some cases, seeds will not germinate, even if all necessary factors are present, due to the fact that the seeds are in a period of dormancy. This means that seeds need to overcome the immature embryo by undergoing development. A seed is considered to be germinated when its radical, or its young root, starts to break out of the protective shell around the embryo. In this experiment, one of the three factors (oxygen) is going to be tested on a set of Limabean seeds to observe how the lack of oxygen will affect germination. There will be two sets of Lima bean seeds. One with wrapping over the petri dish with the cap on, and one with just the wrapping over the dish with fifteen holes on the top. The dish with the cap will have less oxygen

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
