Examples of figurative language: 1. Simile- She wanted that bracelet like a ravenous fox wants a rabbit. 2. Metaphor- The stone walls of stress closed around my heart as I realized I should have studied more. 3. Conceit- Her eyes were the evergreen trees, her nose the perfectly sloped hill and her face the beautifully imperfect forest. 4. Personification- The branches tapped my window in the howling wind. 5. Apostrophe- Please heater, heat faster! 6. Metonymy- It was nothing but a 7. Synecdoche- 8. Hyperbole- I am so hungry I could eat an elephant 9. Litotes- 10. Irony- situstional, verbal, dramatic 11. Symbolism- The man works day and night neglecting the gentle rose that makes life worth living. 12. Imagery- Five, white-grey doves float on the bright sunshine rays that make the morning smell of dew and feel of rain. 13. Paradox- The loud silence fills the room of the murder.
