MGMT 3/24 - Picket line – where ppl walk in front of the entranceway and say don’t shop here (type of boycott) – what can be on those signs is highly regulated o A union member will not cross the picket line o If you draw a picket line around a union members work place, they can’t go to work, which forces them to strike UNLESS, - 2 situations where union can strike legally o When contract expires Collective bargaining, you sit down, union sits down, that’s where election is held, if union wins by 50 percent plus one vote, union represents everyone, whether you want to or not - Wages, anything have to do with compensation packages, benefits, anything with the plant closing o It is both managements and union benefit to have a contract o ONLY OTHER TIME WORKERS CAN GO ON STRIKE Is when there is an unfair labor practice strike HUGE difference between economic which is only at end of contract, replacement workers can be hired during economic strike, and you might not get your job back later In unfair labor practice, you cannot hire replacement workers, obviously this is more effective, so a lot of times a union does this when its really an economic strike o THIS IS HIGHLY POLITICAL, can’t always use cases as precedent bcz it
