What evidence did Alfred Wegener use to for his idea of cont drift? He used shapes of matching shorelines on diff continents as a supporting piece of  evidence He also noted the similarities in rock sequences on both sides of the atlantic as a piece  of evidence He also noticed the occurrence of past glacial activity in areas now tropical and  suggested that it too provided supporting evidence. Currently the onlyplaces where thick  continental ice sheets occur are in polar regions, however, evidence of ancient glaciations is  found in the lower latitude regions of s.america Africa india and Australia Also said fossils that seem out of place today- MESOSAURUS Evolution of similar organisms – kangaroos Australia and opossums america How did the early idea of continental drift differ from the more modern version of plate  tectonics? Plate tectonics – the outermost portion of earth is composed of a patchwork of thin, rigid  plates that move horizontally with respect to one another, like icebergs floating on water – as a  result the continents are mobile and move about on earths surface controlled by forces deep  within earth What are lines of evidence that support plate tectonic theory? Earth’s magnetic field and paleomagnetism – igneous rocks magnetite – frozen compass  needles, sediment Magnetic dip angle in rocks that have frozen magnetic information point out at what  latitude the rock was initially formed at  - shows convincing evidence that the continents had  drifted relative to one another Apparent pole wandering, seems like the pole has been wandering in relation to  continents, but because this is unlikely bcz the pole is directly related to earths rotational axis, it  seems that the continents must have moved relative to the pole

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
