Julissa Vargas word count: 2113 Hatha Yoga Kin 061A 1 st semester Journal Notes First day of yoga was nothing like what I was expecting. I have always seen people doing yoga on TV whether it was in a movie or TV show. From the parts that they showed it looked a lot harder and not as relaxing. It would show the people in the shows or movies dripping in sweat. So, going into the first day that is what I expected but nope it was not like that. You taught us savasana the first day and it was really relaxing. Even though it is just lying on the ground, I could feel my whole body just relax and it felt amazing. I think what helped was watching our breathe pattern and not breathing like we normally would. The next week we learn a little bit more postures and the moon postures get introduced and those are my favorite, even now in week 11 it is my favorite. It is my favorite because I never thought I could feel so relaxed while standing up. When we would exhale that deep breathe I felt like whole body would just go into relax mode. It felt like weight was taken off my shoulders and I had no worry in the world which is a great feeling especially since its Friday and it’s the end of the week and finally time for the weekend. What we also learned within the first two weeks was the bridge pose which I’m going to be completely honest I do not feel much when doing this posture but I do not mind doing it. I also enjoy doing the child pose which we learned in the third week. I like the child pose because I can really feel where it is stretching and it feels amazing. Also, when he do the child pose like extended and the top of our head is now on the ground, that was relaxing and I felt the stretch. Another pose where I can really feel it stretching is the cobra pose. I would do something similar to the cobra pose when I would warmup for basketball practice or when I would warmup before a track meet. I did notice that each week I was getting a lot more flexible. I noticed this because when we would sit on our back feet it would feel so uncomfortable and as the weeks went on I was able to sit lower down and it wouldn’t hurt or feel uncomfortable. Also, with sitting criss cross it was hard to get my legs to be actually touching the ground at first because I was not use to sitting like that so I have seen that improve as well. We started to learn the sun postures which is this cycle with different postures. It was hard to remember what to do at first, I would always watch the person in front of me or on the side of me to keep track of what to do next but then I got used to the cycle because we would do it repetitively.
