FOUNDATION TEST 2 Activity theory 1.) Critique worksheet-driven instruction (i.e., the teaching practice where a teacher assigns many worksheets that focus students on practicing individual skills) using concepts and premises based on Activity Theory. Please try to make 4 main points within your critique. (Response should be approximately one page and is worth 8 points.) Activity theory is defined as a descriptive instrument or framework for a system. According to the theory, individuals are socially entrenched actors (not system components or processors). Again, there exists a ranked assessment of motivated human activity (hierarchies of activity analysis). Activity theory frames people together with their underlying social entities, environment, culture history, motivation, personality. Its premises are founded on a human being and his intentionality, often defined as a human agency (Mwanza & Engeström, 2005). Worksheet-driven instructions hinder the learner’s creativity. If at all times, the instructor will provide a basis for answering specific queries will mean that the person being instructed cannot think for himself or herself. This is very detrimental in classroom learning because there are a multiplicity of ways of approaching questions about different phenomena or course work. Since the learners are not allowed to provide answers based on their knowledge or synchronization of their understanding from the environment of former experiences, they are likely to give solutions to different learning aspects like exams and other course work tasks. If the majority of the students provide wrong answers consistently in a particular lesson and the same applies to other classes, the resultant effect is that the provided education is not beneficial at all and hence needs to be repealed (Roth & Lee, 2007).

FOUNDATION TEST 3 Additionally, worksheets are tedious to follow through. Some lazy learners will feel that their interests of being free-minded are not followed and hence may not follow the instructions provided in a particular task. As such, the concept of learning becomes less-meaningful to them and thus fail terribly in their exams, and other assignments are given to them by the instructors. Lastly, worksheets cannot be used by the physically impaired people since most of them are typed or handwritten. 2.) Describe four instructional practices that are consistent with Activity Theory and indicate why each practice is consistent with it. (Response should be approximately one page and is worth 8 points; 2 points per reason.) Some instructional practices which are in tandem with activity theory include counseling students in a learning institution; this is defined as the process of instilling values which are aimed at preventing an individual from any danger resulting from his activities. Again, counseling implies giving instructions on how a student should behave in certain situations. For
