Social deviance is not easily defined, however, to me, social deviance can occur when an individual engages in conduct that is against norms, values, or laws (Robertson, 2014). According to Robertson (2014), he states that a “person who engages in a negative form of deviance acts in a way that can harm others, while someone who engages in positive deviance, deviates from social norms in order to improve the group or society” (para. 4). Social deviance contributes to social problems because once they act in a deviant way and do not get caught, they keep doing wrong. For example, if a man rapes a women, and does not get caught, he will do that again because he got away with it the first time he raped their victim. Many people who are deviant to society must have to enjoy it, or do it for any other reason that we do not know of. That being said social deviance perpetuates rape on a micro level because they are hurting innocent women who do not deserve it. It messes them up physically, mentally, and spiritually. About “
