CHAPTER 28 – REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM 28.1 – Overview of Female and Male Reproductive Systems In both males and females, the primary reproductive organs are called __gonads____. The female and male reproductive systems share structures that are homologues, that is they arise from common developmental structures. GnRH acts on specific endocrine cells in the __anterior pituitary__ and stimulates them to release __FSH__ and _LH_. As levels of FSH and LH increase, the gonads produce significant levels of _sex hormones_ hormones and start the processes of both _gamete__ and __sexual__ maturation. 28.2 – Gametogenesis Gametogenesis is the process of forming human sex cells, called __gametes____.
