REPORT ON ETHIOPIA2Report on EthiopiaIntroductionEthiopia is a country North East of African, commonly known as the Horn of Africa with its capital at Addis Ababa. It is the largest and the most populated country in Africa and shares borders with Somalia to the east, South Sudan and Sudan to the west, Djibouti to the northeast, Eritrea to the north, and Kenya to the south with approximately 102 million residents. Also, it is the most populous landlocked country in the world. This report, therefore, examines the aspect ofgender in Ethiopia concerning employment, unemployment, labor force participation rate, childcare, and job satisfaction.Gender disparities in employmentOver the years, the Ethiopian women and girls have been suffering from economic and social discrimination because the worth of a woman in Ethiopia is measured by the role she plays as a mother or a wife. This condition has, therefore, led to a significant disparity in the employment sector as only around 40% of Ethiopian women are employed and are part of the low-paying services such as bars, restaurants, and hotels. Additionally, girls get fewer chances to enroll in secondary education and higher education sectors, thus limiting the number of women in high-paying jobs due to lack of skills and experiences. However, even if they are employed, they still hold jobs with low pay compared to men. Furthermore, the disparities are the leading causes for the earning differences between men and women as many men held powerful and influential positions including the government giving them access to finances and allowances, unlike women who hold positions of little and no authority and receive less payment than men.
