Research article review 2 Abstract The main goal of this study done by McKee, Driscoll, Kelloway, and Elizabeth (2011) was to find if workplace spirituality had a role in mediating the relationship between transformational leadership and the well-being of health care employees. To achieve this, they used a multilevel analysis model to analyze the data collected from a questionnaire. The results confirmed their hypothesis that workplace spirituality mediated the effects of transformational leadership to an extent. While there was no overwhelming evidence was found that mental and spiritual well-being were mediated by workplace spirituality, the employees’ sense of community was. Despite the results, there is little lasting impact this study has on society apart from being put aside for future research. But it possibly helped point future researchers in the right direction for studies that are looking to make employee experience in health care improve. (2011), many studies have shown that the quality of leadership determines the work atmosphere, which can directly affect morale, work ethics, and employee retention. It is well known that employees in healthcare, especially nurses, are often over stressed and it is hard to keep employees. If leadership or a healthy workplace environment has a significant role in retaining their employees, then it is worth looking into. McKee et al. (2011) also mentions that other studies have also revealed a strong connection between one’s well-being and workplace spirituality. But what makes this study different from other studies is that it is not just studying the effectiveness of transformational leadership, the workplace, and employee well-being, but it is studying the relationship between all three which is not something that is common in the field (McKee et al., 2011).
