Elizabeth OdunlamiSeptember 26,2018 HST1530From Black Power to “Black” StudiesAfrican-American History is “American” History where the central focus is on African/Black people in the United States. African American studies is vital to the lives of African-Americans and those included with the welfare of the race. There was a point in time in the United States where there was no such thing as “African American History” no one cared about it because majority of the books about History were wrote by White Historians and they devalued Blacks. African Americans struggled for a space in the scholarly world for a legitimate voice to express their interpretations and perspectives of their historical experiences in Africa or in any Country where Blacks existed. There are many reasons for the development of African AmericanStudies, one of the reasons is because African Americans had been left out of history books.
