Aliabbas Hameer Dr. Courtney Welch Due: October 21, y HISTORY 2610.501 TEST 2, ESSAY QUESTION 2 In this essay, I will focus on answering two very separate questions, the first part of the essay will answer what American fighting styles gave them an advantage over the British forces. I will use three examples to answer that; Guerrilla warfare , Fabian strategy And strategic surprises. The second part of the essay will answer what were the significances of the American victories at the Battle of Trenton and Saratoga especially to the American Continental forces. I will use three specific examples for each battle to show the significance. The Americans had no strategy during the Revolutionary war until commander in chief Washington took charge of the Continental army. There is a historical debate on Commander Washington, some praised him for being very strategist whereas others claimed he was persistent, and he was lucky to win. confident, and as they moved towards New York where they lacked preparation and almost lost the battle they managed to escape. ("Fabian Strategy") Commander in chief Washington upon General Greene’s advice moved towards a defensive strategy, in Pennsylvania they retreated out of the reach of the British. President Washington waited and attacked Hessian outputs during the winter and won. This win played a major role on the increase in motivation of American Continental forces and the fall in British forces. British General constantly tried to capture General Greene who was retreating at fast speeds. The British General and his troops won several wars, but at this point they were running out of resources and were exhausted. ("Fabian Strategy") Greene used that to his advantage, and he surprised them by several attacks in the southern region where he reclaimed Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. The second effective strategy used by the American continental forces was the Guerilla warfare. The Americans used this effectively as they had expected that the British had more power than them and if they confronted, they would likely get beat.
