. Chapter 10 Acrisius and Proteus were twins w/ lifelong feud. Were supposed to grow up & rule Argostogether, but Acrisius took control & put Proteus in exile, where he became king of Tiryns. Acrisius had 1 kid: a girl namedDanae. He wanted a son, so he consulted an oracle. He learned he’d have no son & his daughter’s son would kill him later. He locked his daughter in underground chamber cast from bronze to avoid this. Zeus appeared, showering her w/ goldwhich fell in her lap and became pregnant. Perseuswas born. Acrisius put Danae and Perseus in a large wooden chest, setting them adrift in Aegean Sea. Zeus guided chest to Island of Seriphus, king was Polydectes. His brother. Dictys, was a poor fisherman who found the pair, brought them home & caredfor them till Perseus was grown. Polydectes fell in love w/ Danae, but she rejected him. He was afraid of Perseus, so he did nothing. Hoping to shame Perseus into leaving the country, the king held feast and demanded each guest bring gift of horse which he knew Perseus didn’t have.
