Honestly, this is such an easy topic to ramble on about. I could talk for ages, but I have better things to do right now. Anyway, I completely agree with everything that John Gatto has to say. What makes this essay exceptionally great is that the author didn’t just write it from any perspective. He wrote it from a teacher’s perspective. Usually it’s teachers versus students. You’d think that Stephen, being a teacher of many years, would try to explain how school helps kids. But no, he is on the students’ side; he earned my respect from the first paragraph! One thing that I found interesting was how teachers turn out to be just as bored as the students. I’m not surprised because what could possibly be fun in talking to a bunch of dumb uninterested

Unformatted text preview: kids, grading their tests, and trying to decrypt their horrifying handwriting. But someone has to do the job, right? Well what if nobody had to do it? What if there was no school? For starters, I’m sure there would be a lot less miserable people in the world. If both students and teachers are miserable, then why not make a difference? If everyone just gave up the whole school thing, life would be a lot more fun. People would be a lot more creative, adventurous, and productive. Kids wouldn’t have to waste time filling out lame worksheets, answering unimportant questions, writing pointless essays, and finishing unnecessary homework. Also, youth would have a lot less stress, if any at all. The only problem might be stupidity caused by laziness....
