WRR # 10 Supercrip stories are about disabled people completing everyday activities or overcoming their disabilities that able-bodied people highlight and use as motivation. Supercrips are often seen as brave or miraculous when they complete events that able-bodied people perceive as difficult, or they are pitied if they struggle to accomplish a task. The problem with supercrip stories is that it focuses on their experience with their impairments rather than the ableist structure of society. In the excerpt, Claire writes about disability theorist Michael Oliver who “defines disability as the ‘disadvantage or restriction of activity caused by a contemporary social organisation which takes no or little account of people who have physical [and/or cognitive/developmental/mental] impairments and thus excludes them from mainstream society’” (6). Through this social model of disability, Claire critiques supercrip stories by writing that it doesn’t focus on significant issues like “material,
