Persephone - Zeus agreed to marriage/didn’t oppose it; Told Hades Demeter wouldn’t like it & Hades abducted her; Persephonewas gathering flowersin Sicily& Hades appeared on his chariot, swooping her up; Earthopened up & allowed Hades chariot topass through, then closing; She was feared as queen & mortals often used her name in curses; Raised Adonisat request of Aphrodite & was so attached to him that she first refused to give him back; Remained faithful to Hades & insured that he did the same; On other occasions, Hades attempted to seduce Minthe & Leuce (2 nymphs) but Persephone changed them into a mintplant& a white poplar treebefore anything happened; Demeter- No one attending Persephone saw what happened; She searched for her for 9days & nights, no stops; Caused famine & destruction, threatening to make earth barren forever, destroying all humankind if Persephone wasn’t found; Hecatetold her she was taken; They went to Heliuswho told them what happened & tried to convince Demeter that Hades was a good husband; After 1 year of famine, Zeus tried to persuade Demeter to relent; Zeus sent Hermesto collect Persephone; Hades let her go & deceived her into eating some pomegranate seeds; Rhea’s
