Did you know Adding Sugar to Water can Benefit you? Have you ever heard stories on the news about pipes bursting in the winter? That is because the water in the pipes freezes when the water reaches 0 degrees Celsius. As a result, the ice expands the water, causing the pipes in the house to burst because of the increases volume, causing a very expensive plumbing bill. Now if you are scared about this happening, don’t worry, because there is a very simple measure that you can take to protect your home. You can lower the freezing point of the water. Lowering the freezing point of the water will not only prevent your pipes from bursting, but will also increase the boiling point as well for those hot summers. How can you do this? You can add solutes! One solute in particular can be used quite effectively: glucose. Glucose can not only lower the boiling point of water, but it can also lower the freezing point as well.
