Ashley FrancoENG 201Professor Rizzuto October 31, 2019Journal 10+11Chapter 18 was all about the concept of the setting(s) for a story. Setting is described as “the foundation on which a character stands” (pg. 196). It explains that we as writers may not putall of our attention on the setting and we don’t realize really how crucial this factor is. We as writers should make our readers feel our setting, make them use their senses. I really liked the following quote “while the mantra ‘write about what you know’ is good advice, it does not mean that the writer cannot learn more.” (pg. 197) because it’s true. Although it sounds corny using your imagination can often be a great asset. Theme is also commonly put with the element of setting, but the chapter stated that setting does not have to represent theme which I feel is a common misconception because I believe I’ve been taught theme does represent your setting.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
