World University of Bangladesh Dept. of C omputer S cience and Engineering Digital Electronics - I Lab (CS E 606) Prepared by Md. Mukit and Paroma Jahan Experiment No.: 9 Experiment Name: Design of a 2 to 4 line Decoder and a decimal to BCD Encoder. Objectives: 1. To have idea about how to construct encoder and decoder IC 2. To derive the truth table from the constructed circuits and verify the outputs Apparatus Required: 1. DC Power Supply 2. LED, Connecting Wire 3. The Logic Gates 4. Breadboard Theory and Methodology: An encoder is a device or a circuit that converts information from one format or code to another. A decoder does the reverse operation of the encoder. It undoes the encoding so that the original information can be retrieved. Both the encoder and decoder are combinational circuits. Encoding and decoding are very widely used ideas. They have applications in electronic circuits, software programs, medical devices, telecommunication and many others. In this experiment, a very basic 2-to-4 line decoder and a decimal to BCD encoder will be constructed. A decoder can convert binary information from n input lines to a maximum of 2n

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
