OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT AND FACTORS AFFECTING PRODUCTIVITY 2 Operations Management and Factors Affecting Productivity Maduro Cleaning is a small organization that specializes in offering cleaning services to commercial entities and residential clients. It operates with crews of varying numbers depending on the task assigned to the company. The owner of Maduro Cleaning assigns his staff duties in groups of two, three, or four employees. He seeks to develop a way to measure productivity levels of the different crew sizes and determine the adequate number for high productivity. An organization’s success necessitates evaluating the productivity of employees. The ensuing data is used for performance appraisal to identify and reward the most productive employees (Phin, 2015, p.96). Rewarding the best performing employees incentivizes them to work harder and increase out-put while also challenging the other employees to improve their productivity levels. These initiatives will ensure that Maduro Cleaning meets objectives successfully. Measuring the productivity of each crew entails calculating the number of square meters covered by a team and dividing it against the number of crew members (Smartsheet, 2019). This method enables the owner to compare the productivity output of the different crews and use the numbers to assign his staff future jobs. Below is the process of calculating productivity. Average Square Meters Covered Per Day (Output) ÷ Crew Size (Input) The owner has utilized two, three, and four crew sizes and the square meter each squad has covered is displayed in Table 1 below.
OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT AND FACTORS AFFECTING PRODUCTIVITY 3 Table 1 Crew Size Against Total Output in Terms of Square Meters Covered Crew Size Average Square Meters Covered Per Day 2 3765 3 4915 4 6309 The best way to measure the effectiveness of each crew in completing tasks involves using the output figures and dividing them with the size of the team. This method proves credible and accurate crew size to use. In other words, the owner of Maduro Cleaning services can determine the best crew size for future assignments.
