LD 1NC These men ask for just the same thing, fairness and fairness only. This so far as in my power they, and all others, shall have. – Abraham Lincoln Good morning/afternoon. My name is Karla Cheshire and I stand against the resolution The United States ought to provide a Universal Basic Income. I. Definitions I accept the affirmative team’s definitions If not a. Ought – to express duty or obligation (dictionary.com) b. Provide – to supply or equip (dictionary.com) c. Universal Basic Income - a model for providing all citizens of a country or other geographical area with a given sum of money, regardless of their income, resources, or employment status (WhatIs.com) So no matter what if you’re an extremely hard worker or a lazy couch potato you get the same amount of money regardless of what you do II. Value Accept affirmative or propose diff. (can argue that both values equally important and one should not be valued over the other) (or accept but reject definition) I agree that although the affirmatives value is worthy value. However, there is a higher value that must be considered before rashly switching to UBI that is the value of Fairness – everyone is treated justly in keeping with truth, fact, or righteous standards III. Criterion Accept affirmative or propose diff.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
