Professor Ramanathan MSE 19000 28 November 2016 My Takeaways from My Time in MSE 19000 I chose to take this class because I was unsure of what exactly a material engineer did. In the end, I am very glad I chose to take this class because I have learned a lot about what a material engineer does and have found the information given regarding the occupation and the problems a material engineer tackles. There are three main types of materials, and this was stressed throughout the class periodically. These materials are: metals, polymers, and ceramics. It was also stressed that some material can also exhibit properties that are unique to more than one type of these materials. These types of materials are called composites. Each of these types of materials have their own properties they tend to exhibit. For example, ceramics tend to have a very large hardness value and elastic modulus. Metals tend to be ductile, electrically and thermally conductive, and also have a large elastic modulus. (But often lower than the elastic

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
