1 Taylor Kiley Taylor Professor Sharon Brenner English 105 10 October 2019 Scars till You’re Beautiful “I think we are all insecure, and there is nothing wrong in accepting that. But the problem arises when we try to counter this insecurity by cultivating this illusion of control, and we take ourselves and everything we know to seriously” ~ Sushant Singh Rajput (Rajput). Insecurities are one of the many faults everyone encounters in life no matter what age, race, gender, and ethnic group. Everyone admits to having that little voice in their head declaring that they aren’t perfect enough, skinny enough, and then many other points. Insecurities don’t occur solely from oneself, but other individuals can verbally, physically, or psychologically by forcing the victim in a secluded place in their mind believing the world is against them. This is not true and should cross no one’s mind, but it takes place every second, every minute, and every second each day without fail. There is usually an assumption that as young people grow up that beauty is the sole legitimate definition of perfect, while in reality imperfections can make people beautiful. The differing perceptions and misinterpretations of what should designate someone to be beautiful. Insecurities drive many acts of harm and abuse to oneself or others through bullying, self-harm, and even suicide. Society possesses a remarkably negative attitude on life, including the fact that weaknesses and scars are seen as ugly. This song came out in 2016 where Omar Mateen a 29-year-old from Fort Pierce, Florida who pledged allegiance to ISIS and killed 49 individuals in a nightclub in Orlando, Florida

2 Taylor became one of the deadliest terrorist’s mass shooting in the United States since 9/11 (Ellis). Another significant issue in the United States was 382 mass shootings, which killed a total of 451 people and wounded 1538 (Lope).
