The topic I have chosen for my evaluation essay is the book The Yearling . This particular writing was highly acclaimed when it was first written. It was the national bestseller in 1938 and the seventh national bestseller in 1939. The novel also won the Pulitzer Prize in 1939. It has also been translated into twenty-nine different languages. The Yearling was not only a bestseller, it is still a vivid picture of a fading, if not a nonexistent, way of life. The Yearling is also somewhat of a psychological thriller, containing in-depth descriptions about death and other mystique. There are several criteria that could be used to evaluate The Yearling . Unformatted text preview: whole novel will be terrible regardless of the author’s writing skills. The second criteria is the characters. The development of the characters could be examined as well as the psychology of the characters interaction with each other. The third criteria is the realism of the story line. I plan to examine if the story line is realistic and believable. The Yearling could be excused as boring and irrelevant; however, this novel is historically, culturally, and philosophically relevant. When the novel is examined with the proper perspective, this novel should be relevant to many, if not all, readers. That is what I hope to do with my evaluation essay. I want to make an effort to make my topic relevant to all readers....
