Committee: De La Salle University – Dasmariñas Senior High School Country: Philippines Delegates: Ivan A. Alejos, Kathleen L. Paredes, Joseph S. Serdoncillo, & Kelsey B. Valencia Topic: Jeepney Modernization Program The Jeepney Modernization Program As stated by BusinessMirror Editorial (2019), the Jeepney Modernization Program is formally named as the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program, initially introduced by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in 2015 and was released by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) back in 2017. This is an initiative of the administration which will replace old and in poor condition jeepneys for new and more secure electric jeepneys (e-jeepneys). Although there are numerous new opportunities, there are still disadvantages in this modernization program. The modernization of jeepneys in the Philippines will be a burden to the government, the public, and the jeepney drivers, therefore, it should not be implemented. According to Adrian (2019), the modernization of jeepneys in the Philippines will provide new job opportunities and a higher income for drivers and the government will also help through subsidizing their jeepneys worth 80,000 pesos. Through the jeepney modernization program, new jobs will be open as there will be an increase in the car production. This will lead to a higher employment rate for the car manufacturing industry as the firms from this industry will be hiring new workers in the production of the e-jeepneys. Due to the higher cost production, there will also be an increase in the base fare of the jeepneys, from eight pesos to twelve pesos. With this, the operators and drivers will generate a higher daily income as the four-peso increase per passenger will significantly contribute to having a higher amount of earnings of the jeepney drivers.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
