Literature Review Writing your Literature Review In a proposal, you need to provide the context for your research question, as well as the necessary background information for the reader to understand your project. For example, if you are doing a project on blood spatter analysis, you should explain what blood spatter analysis is, when it is used, how reliable it is, etc. What do we already know about this topic? What do we still not know? How are you building on previous research? Your background section should be at least THREE paragraphs in length and have at least FIVE unique references. Use the checklist on the right to make sure you have every component of the lit review! Check List Lit review thoroughly explains the topic the research question is on Lit review explains all vocabulary that is not common knowledge (e.g., explain what ‘blood spatter analysis’ is) Lit review describes what is already known about the topic Lit review explains how this project builds
