Annotate your diagrams and provide a full explanation of the working of the system:1) Two different types of cam mechanism and follower.There are different types of cam mechanism and followers. For example, one type of cam is the wedge cam. The wedge cam is different to the other types of cam because they don’t require a rotary input for it to work. Wedge cams require a back and forth motion in order to work. Another type of cam is the disc cam. The disc cam requires a rotary input for it to work. Disc cams are the most common types of cam and they come in different shapes and sizes to suit different operations. As well as having different types of cam, you also have different types of follower. One type of follower is the knife-edge follower. This type of follower is very effective when following a complicated profile. Another advantage of the knife-edge follower is that it can operate in both directions. The knife-edge follower isn’t used as much as the other followers due to the fact that it wears rapidly due to high frictional forces. Another type of follower is the roller. This type of follower is used frequently because wear is minimised and it operates smoothly. The only disadvantage is thatthe surface of the cam has to be large than the radius of the roller e.g. the cam can’t have small crevices/tight corners. The purpose of cams and their followers is to change the rate at which the valves open for the pistons to let the fuel enter and extract the fumes etc. 2) Two different types of linkage mechanisms.Parallel motion linkage: TheParallel Motion Linkageis aFour Bar Chainthat has the bars at equal length to ensure that theinput and output motions remain parallel. These types of linkage are used for a range of different things. For example, they are used for electric Trains to pick up power from the overhead cables. They are also used for toolboxes, sewing boxes and alsoto copy sketches which makes this a versatile linkage system. Reverse motion linkage:Page 1

Ciaran HarveyThe reverse motion linkage has an opposite output direction than the input direction. For example, if the input was a pulling motion, the output would be a pushing motion. Although it seemslike a simple linkage mechanism, you need to plot the pivot point precisely/accurately or the output won’t be equal to the input. 3) Two different kinds of belt drive assembly.Flat belt assembly: There are many different types of belt drive assemblies. For example, one type of belt drive assemble is the flat belt. Flat belts are specially designed for light-duty power transmission and high-performance conveying. Flat belts have a lot of benefits including how flexible it is and how energy efficient it is. Other advantages include: long service life less down time (when it breaks)
