Georgia 1976 are two important Supreme Court cases when looked at from a historical perspective. The two cases resulted in a majority decision by the Supreme Court judges that the death penalty was unfair in some cases which has over the years influenced several states in America and even some nations across the world to abolish the death penalty (Kastellec, 2016). In both cases, the judges ruled that the death penalty was in contravention of the eighth amendment and as such this form of capital punishment has been abolished in most states in America.Several studies have been carried out to assess the relationship between death and the death penalty with the studies revealing the color of the accused has a huge bearing on whether or not they receive the death penalty.
