Crisis Simulation Project Part 6 Bourgeoisie Organization Learning and Long-term Changes Landscape Survey Internal Were warning signals missed prior to the crisis occurring? Prior to the mistake Bourgeoisie made by using a new supplier, without properly checking them out, Bourgeoisie was using a top-quality supplier. Bourgeoisie, as well as the supplier knew their mission and were working towards providing the quality accessories for good prices. When their demand grew too fast, they had a very small amount of time to switch suppliers. Whenever someone is acting quickly, they should know that there is more room for mistakes. When people act fast, they may not check all the details before it is too late. This is exactly what happened. Demand was growing so fast, that the management had to make a quick decision. This entailed not going to the plant and inspecting the merchandise. It also caused the company to sign a contract and use much funds without a clause in case it does not meet standards. Aside from just the regular fast-moving warnings, there were no other signals which the company should have picked up on before disaster struck. Are there new vulnerabilities in our organization that we need to be aware of? After Bourgeoisie made their mistake, they are now more vulnerable than they were before. Previously, they did not even realize what type of mistakes it would be possible for them to make. Once they made a mistake, they began to learn. They started realizing that they need to be careful and properly think things through before committing. They realized that they need to have proper customer service in place and basic rules for complaints. Bourgeoisie now has the experience of making a mistake which can better prepare them for the future. One may think that this makes them less vulnerable to making a mistake again. However, being that they already made a mistake, they are now aware that mistakes really do happen. So although knowing can be beneficial for them, they can also constantly be worrying about making a mistake and other factors can slip through, causing another mistake. Are there new methods of detection that we can use to sense an impending crisis? There are a few things that can be learned from Bourgeoisie and their reaction to their crisis. The first thing is to never act without really thinking it through. Had the management team really thought before jumping with a new supplier, they probably would have thought to check out the merchandise first. And had they been too short on time to do that, they could have put a clause into the contract saying that if the merchandise does not meet standards, then they can return for a refund. Another point that can be learned is that when you see your demand rising or

falling, do not wait until you have no other options to react. Start thinking of a plan when you see the trend starting. And if the trend does not continue as you planned, then simply do not implement the plan you created. But in the event that you do need the plan, you will have it
