(10 pts.)Foreign direct investment is an investment made by a firm or induvial in one country into business interest located in another country. Foreign direct investment benefits the global economy, as well as investors and recipients. An example of this is the North Atlantic Free Trade Agreements,the world’s largest free trade agreement between Canada, Mexico, and the United States. NAFTA is the first time two developed nations signed a trade agreement with an emerging market country. It increased FDI between the countries to $452 billion in 2012. Another example of foreigndirect investment is how many All-American companies are starting to expand their business into China. Companies such as Apple, Ford Motor, Nike, and Gap have been expanding into mainland China. Within the last year American companies ponied up $3.6 billion in foreign direct investment in China. 2.In a Foreign Direct investment what kind of non-equity arrangements can be arranged? (5 pts.)Types of non-equity arrangements that can be arranged in a Foreign Direct investment are licensing, Turn-key Projects, and Management Contracts. Licensing involves giving a foreign manufacturer the right to use a patent, technology, production process, or product in return for the payment of a royalty. Turn-key Projects are a method of doing international business whereby a foreign entrepreneur supplies the manufacturing technology or infrastructure for a business and then turns it over to local owners. Management Contracts are a non-equity method of international business in which an entrepreneur contracts his or her management techniques and skills to a foreign purchasing company. 3.What are the characteristics of the manager of the future, list 3 and explain why? There are many different characteristics a manager of the future should have. The manager’s personality and behavior should set the tone for the business. I believe some essential characteristics a manager should have leadership, communication, and respect.
