Setsuwa vs Court Literature Setsuwa - It is about everything and anything, good, bad - Not as elegant compared to court literature Court Literature - There are poems that express feelings throughout the writing - Elegantly written Kankyo no Tomo - A man left her and didn’t come back to visit her, she took it very seriously and was really hurt by this - She kills the man and makes 5 horns out of her hair and syrup and she also wears red pants - She leaves her temple and disappears for years - She tries to take the syrup out of her hair but it doesnt work - Goal: Warning against strong emotion and advertises the Lotus Sutra - Strong emotion will move and change you in a manner that is unpleasant How a Noble Lady serving at court displayed her Impure form - The lady explains that her insides are not pretty and aesthetic like her looks - The monk gains an understanding that passion is useless
