Gage Espy Hist213 4/2/2019 Denial and Saving Private Ryan The history behind world war two has been portrayed in numerous ways. Two of these films, Denial and Saving Private Ryan , are famous for their great acting and accurate representation of the time periods. Denial is a movie where a holocaust denier, David Irving, is suing Deborah Lipstadt because she had written a book about holocaust deniers and labeled him as one. Unlike in America where one is innocent until proven guilty, it’s the opposite in Britain, where the trial is taking place. Essentially, they had to prove that the holocaust actually happened. After a long trial, the judge ruled in favor of the defendant. Saving private Ryan, on the other hand, is regarded as one of the best world war two films to date. The story is based around captain John Miller, who takes his squad behind enemy lines to, as the name states, save a private named James Ryan. As they do this, each man in the squad goes on a personal journey to discover themselves. Regarding which movie I would recommend to someone who does not really know much about world war two, it would naturally be Saving Private Ryan . Although Saving Private Ryan is an older movie than Denial , both movies are incredible, but Denial is based around the Holocaust. I agree that the holocaust was a major part of world war two, but it takes place years after the war, and does not express the war in the way Saving Private Ryan did. Both movies were very different in their take on world war two, but they shared a few similarities. Both movies are regarded as historically accurate by many historians and critics and represented history well in their own portions of history.
