The seven dimensions of ABA govern and define the basis of applied behavior analysis. The first dimension of ABA that really stood out to me in a way that I found easy to understand was the dimension of generality. Baer, Wolf, and Risley (1968) discuss generality as a behavior that has the ability to be generalized across different settings, or across different but related behaviors. I personally have much experience with this particular dimension through my work as a registered behavior technician (RBT). Many goals that I have run with current and past clients include a phase where we incorporate this dimension of generality or generalization. Some past examples have included running goals that we typically do in the therapy room in other rooms such as playroom, outside, and hallways. A goal that I have run in the past where different situations were generalized included bouncing a ball, but the client was required to use different sized balls rather than the same small bouncy ball that we had previously used.
