1. Sugar act (1764) 1.1. Aimed at ending the smuggling trade in sugar. First tax on the american colonies. 1.2. Outcome: set the stage for the revolt at the imposition of the Stamp Act 2. Currency act (1764) - Britain passed laws to keep Dutch shippers out of th American carrying trade which demanded all goods land in Britain first to collect a slice of the profits. Since America bought more from Britain than they sold there, the colonies had to make up the difference in hard cash (gold and silver coins). - The currency issues extended so far the colonies had to print their own paper money. The British merchants’ theory of mercantilism lead to Parliament prohibiting the colonial legislature from printing paper and passing bankruptcy laws. 3. Stamp act (March 22 1765) - The Stamp act was passed in parliament. It is the first direct tax on the colonies. The purpose of the tax is to help pay for the British military stationed in America. This act is met with greater resistance, and the cry against taxation without representation increases.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
