According to the textbook, nurses in various settings are adopting a research-based (or evidence- based) practice that incorporates research findings into their decisions and interactions with clients. How do you see this being applied in your workplace? The underlying principle of everything I was taught in nursing school was evidence-based practice (EBP). As a result, even contemplating working in a manner that does not incorporate research-backed strategies into my plan of care for each patient seems ludicrous. EBP improves patient care and satisfaction and reduces the chances of compounded morbidity or mortality. Critical thinking and EBP go hand in hand with one another in clinical nursing practice. EBP is utilized when peer-reviewed and approved research is implemented in patient care. The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program requires hospitals to use evidence-based practice in nursing. Nurses need

My go-to example is using EBP to reduce or eliminate instances of CAUTI on a floor, ward, or unit. We do not insert Foleys now on incontinent patients just because it is convenient for a reason. Evidence-based research showed that Foleys increased the chances of UTIs so EBP determined suitable protocols for Foley catheter insertion and care including the rule that Foleys should only be inserted under certain conditions and must be replaced after a certain length of time, and must use sterile technique.
