Procedure Obtain three TLC plates, a developing chamber, a few spotting capillaries, and the developing solvent of 95% ethyl acetate and 5% acetic acid. Add ¼ inch of solvent and fresh filter paper to prepare developing chamber and cap the chamber. Obtain the five standards: acetyl salicylic acid, acetaminophen, caffeine, phenacetin, and ibuprofen. Use a pencil to draw an origin line and spot each on the line using a capillary tube. A fresh tube should be used for each standard. Label each spot with a pencil and allow to dry before adding the plate to the developing chamber. Remove plate when solvent is about ¼ inch from the top of the plate. Remove plate from the chamber by the edges and mark the solvent front with pencil line and let dry. Analyze plate with UV lamp with short wave length. Lightly create a circle around each spot.
