I do not think that the State Board of Nursing should impose limitations on the number of hours that nurses works due to nurse fatigue and the greater chance of making mistakes that can be detrimental to patients because we are professional and have lives outside of work. I know that I make my schedule with 6 nights straight because I feel that it is difficult to work night shift with one day on and one day off. Additionally, I prefer to have a stretch of days off in a row so that I can do various things such as schoolwork and traveling. However, nurses should be at their fullest mental capacity while assuming patient care. If problems or complaints arise, then the limitation should be at the managers discretion and only be directly between nurse and manager. If decreased quality of care is continually provided to the patients, then something must be done in order to prevent significant harm. Therefore, the nurse must be reprimanded accordingly within the workplace. I don’t think the State Board of Nursing should have the right to limit hours of work, because not every nurse is incapable of providing quality care while working several days in a row. According to Page, she states that, “A number of interventions have been proposed to mitigate the effect of shift work.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
