ATMO 202 - Atmospheric Sciences Laboratory Students enrolled in this course should have had, or be taking ATMO 201 Teaching Asst: Ian Boedeker office: 1104b , phone: 45843173 ' e—mail: i75ian@ariel.met.tamu.edu Primary Text: The Laboratory Manual has been prepared by the Atmospheric Sciences Department and can be purchased from the Copy Corner. Reference Text: It may be helpful to have, or have access to, a basic meteorology text, such as the text for ATMO 201, or as found in the library. It is not necessary to purchase a basic meteorology text Specifically for this course. The Laboratory Manual is sufficient. The materials used in this course are copyrighted. By “materials,” I mean all materials generated for this class, which include but are not limited to syllabi, quizzes, exams, lab problems, lab web pages, iii—class materials, review sheets, and additional problem sets. Because these materials are copyrighted, you do not have the right to copy the handouts, unless permission is expressly granted. Required Info: As commonly defined, plagiarism consists of passing off as one's own the ideas, words, writings, etc., which belong to another. In accordance with this 3 definition, you are committing plagiarism if you copy the work (including lab exercises) of another person and turn it in as your own, even if you should have permission of that person. Plagiarism is one of the worst academic sins, for the plagiarist destroys the trust among colleagues without which research cannot be safely communicated. This course is designed to allow the student to use meteorological data to better understand the atmosphere and to make determinations about the atmosphere, rather than to just learn general information concerning the atmosphere. The student will, in some exercises, use meteorological instruments to collect data; in others, data will be provided. All classes will meet in room 1107. Most exercises are designed for the student to complete them at their own pace. Most exercises will be done with a partner. It is recommended that you do not copy another's work. Make certain you understand the material. If you do not understand the material after it is covered in class, see me. Don't guess or hand in an uncompleted exercise. The two—hour class time is provided for you to work on the exercises with the availability of the instructor or lab assistant. Normally, one exercise will be covered each laboratory period. Laboratory exercises are due at the next class period after they are covered in class. You will have one additional class period to turn in the exercise. Exercises turned in after the second class period will receive a score of 1/2 the graded percentage points. Exercises turned in after the third class period will not be graded and a score of zero (0) will be assigned. Exercises turned in with answers obviously copied will receive a grade of zero. Do Not Procrastinate! The exercise schedule is given below. My office hours are: Mon. 4~5 pm. Fri. 2—3 pm! . Your final class grade will depend on the grades you receive for the exercises, the two scheduled exams, and the final exam. The percentages assigned to each are shown below. Do not fail to turn in exercises. A grade of zero on an exercise can significantly lower your final grade. Concerning exercises and exams; write neat, use complete sentences, and do not make me guess at what you are trying to say - fully answer the question!
