It may be helpful to have, or have access to, a basic meteorology text, such as the text for ATMO 201, or as found in the library. It is not necessary to purchase a basic meteorology text specifically for this course. The Laboratory Manual is sufficient. The materials used in this course are copyrighted. By “materials,” I mean all materials generated for this class, which include but are not limited to syllabi, quizzes, exams, lab problems, lab web pages, in— class materials, review sheets, and additional problem sets. Because these materials are copyrighted, you do not have the right to copy the handouts, unless permission is expressly granted. As commonly defined, plagiarism consists of passing off as one's own the ideas, words, writings, etc., which belong to another. In accordance with this definition, you are cemrnitting plagiarism if you copy the work (including lab exercises) of another person and turn it in as your own, even if you should have permission of that person. Plagiarism is one of the worst academic sins, for the plagiarist destroys the trust among colleagues without which research cannot be safely communicated. The Aggie Honor Codes states, “An Aggie does not lie, cheat, or steal or tolerate those who do.” Uptm accepting admission to Texas A&M University, a student immediately assumes a commitment to uphold the Honor Code, to accept reSponsibility for learning, and to follow the philosophy and rules of the Honor System. This course is designed to allow the student to use meteorological data to better understand the atmosphere and to make determinations about the atmosphere, rather than to just learn general information concerning the atmosphere. The student will, in some exercises, use meteorological instruments to collect data; in others, data will be provided. All classes will meet in room 1107. Most exercises are designed for the student to complete them at their own pace. Most exercisas will be done with a partner. It is recommended that you do not copy another's work. Make certain you understand the material. If you do not understand the material after it is covered in class, see me. Do not guess or hand in an uncompleted exercise. The two-hour class time is provided for you to work on the exercises with the availability of the instructor or lab assistant. Normally, one exercise will be covered each laboratory period. Grade: Your final class grade will depend on the grades you receive for the exercises, the two scheduled exams, and the final exam. The percentages assigned to each are shown below. The penalty for late submissions without a university approved excuse or prior instructor approval is as follows: ! 1 day late 20% off 2 days late 30% off 3 days late 50% off 4 or more days a zero will be assigned. Saturday and Sunday arefiee Deadline on each day is 3pm. Example: A forecast and lab are due-at the start of class, but they get turned in at 1pm that same day—a 20 % late penalty will be assessed. If turned in the next day at 2 pm, the 20% rate still applies, but after 3pm, the rate increases to 30%.
