STUDENT NAME: Siddharth Narayan1]Perfusion method is an operational technique of cell culture process in which equivalent amount of medium is simultaneously added and removed from the bioreactor while high number of viable cells are retained in the reactor. This ensures a steady and fresh source of fresh unspent medium along with constant removal of spent medium and toxic cellular waste products. Typically, one cycle lasts for 30-60 days. Fed Batch method is an operational technique of cell culture process where one or more nutrients (i.e, substrates) are fed or supplied to the bioreactor during cultivation of cells while the products and cellular components remain in the bioreactor until the end of the run. One cycle typically lasts for up to 14/15 days. 2]A] My first choice will be a spinner flask. The design consists of a plastic or glass flask with two side ports for inoculum and medium addition with a magnetically coupled stirrer of bar type on central axis or conical pendulum. This is an economic and elementary design suitable for early stage research and development. It involves homogeneous mixing of components without formation of gradients.
