Carlos Banuelos WMST 101 Sherlyl Lutjens 9/17/2013 Future of Herland People argue that women have the same rights as men, but in our society each one has a different role. Sex and gender are different things, one defines the difference of a person based on their body parts and gender is the characteristic that makes a person act in a certain way to satisfy the society. Gender equality is important because is what it gives social justice and the American constitution dictates that, but women is not seem with the same power and respect as men do. Human rights violations particular to women, such as sexual violence, raise distinct ways to identify them as sex objects, not only in the United States but around the world. A plethora of women are tired of all the discrimination, and fight for women rights every day to chance and have a better society. In 1915 in a industrialized and competitive society the author Charlotte Gilman criticized humanity in a certain way because women was forced to live in a oppression the had to work at home the entire day, they were not allow to obtain a higher education level and their voice was ignore because only men could vote at that time .Based on that observations and own experience by living in poverty and in a complete domination, Gilman wrote the book called ‘Herland” in which she describes a society composed of women who reproduce themselves and their society is in complete order because men does not exist ideal social order; free of war, discrimination and oppression. In the novel the author illustrates how women should act through the character Ellador. She is intelligent, courageous, and curious about the world but what makes her special is that she is a career woman and understands man
