Discussion Board Week One My name is Chase King and I am a BSN nurse. I have been around medicine since 2005 when I became an EMT-B. After that, I was a Combat Medic and ultimately earned my nursing degree in 2015. I became a nurse with the final goal of becoming a Practitioner. I am from a rural part of Florida and our community is very small. The access to healthcare here is limited to a twelve-bed inpatient hospital with a five-bed Emergency Department. We have a couple of general practitioners but all specialty care is an hour away. Although we are small, we have a very diverse population which Blais and Hayes (2016) refer to as a cultural mosaic (p. 395). When coupled with the limited resources in this community it presents unique challenges. If we do not deliver care that lines up with these various value systems it can start a downward spiral that creates negative patient outcomes which compound the stress on an already vulnerable healthcare system (Andrews &Boyles, 2016).
