Critical Care Exam #2 Atelectasis -Airway inflammation & edema alveolar collapse & increased risk of hypoxemia -SOB, hypoxemia, diminished breath sounds over affected area -C Xray: areas of density Burns -rules of 9s: Head = 4.5% ea. side Arms = 4.5% ea. side Chest = 18% Back = 18% Legs = 9% ea. side Groin = 1% -escharotomy: incision through eschar; relieves pressure & improves circulation -priority interventions: stop burning, secure airway, O2, flush with cool water, provide warmth, pain meds Catheterization -ensure client understanding -maintain NPO 8hrs prior -obtain VS, ausc. lung/heart sounds, assess peripheral pulses -assess for iodine/shellfish allergy, assess renal function -admin. methylprednisone, diphenhydramine -client will be awake & sedated, warm flush w/ contrast, local anesthetic Neurogenic Shock -common response of spinal cord after injury -sx: bradycardia, hypotension, dependent edema, loss of temp. regulation, -NI: treat w/ vasopressors, atropine Primary Survey Rapid assessment of life threatening conditions -airway/cervical spine -breathing
