Helena’s character brings attention to overly excessive love. Although she knows that she is making herself look crazy chasing after Demetrius, she does not stop pursuing him. Her mindset is set onthe nature of love. She wants to make Demetrius love her, even though he tells her multiple timesthat he cannot love her.Helena believes that Hermia’s beauty is the reason Demetrius will not love her. “Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind.”(I.I.234). Helena believes that Demetrius has built uphis own imaginary beauty of Hermia, that prevents him from seeing her own beauty. Throughout all of this, Helena still stays loyal to Demetrius. Demetrius treats Helena like crap. “I love thee not, therefore pursue me not.”(II.I.570).
