INTRODUCTION Present how strategic planning, performance improvement, and information systems are interrelated and fundamental to the delivery of quality health care
WHY I CHOOSE MY TOPICI chose this topic because I think it is important for a medical administrator to understand the relationship between the business side of healthcare and how it in turn affects the clinical side. Strategic planning is the strategy used to ensure a healthcare facility is being run within budget and still meeting healthcare needs. This is important to the clinical side as well because a proper budget and marketing can improve the quality of treatment a facility can provide. Performance improvement applies to the training and education of the staff. The more opportunities for staff to learn and grow the care will improve because staff will be up to date on new training and techniques. This can improve performance since continuing education is key to having knowledgeable employees. Information systems are constantly changing, and it is important to understand how they need to change to improve quality and performance. Information systems play a role in HIPPA as well since most facilities are switching to EMR systems. It is important for administrators to be up to date on new rules and privacy acts to help protect patient safety.
