CAPITAL ONE SITUATION AUDIT 4 Introduction This is a situation audit report on Capital One Financial. In this report, an organizational fact sheet will be prepared based on extensive research on Capital One. The fact sheet will include information on the how Capital One came about, its evolution, forms of organization, executive leadership and it size and structure. A close review of Capital One’s mission, vision, values and goals will also be discussed in this paper. Since the audience of this will be key stakeholders including board members, new employees and just about anyone from the public, it would be helpful to include a report on the following topics: 1. Strategy and Competitive Advantage 2. Leadership, Governance and Management 3. Strengths and Weaknesses 4. Learning and Change 5. Conclusion and Recommendations The main objective of a situation audit is to “identify and analyze the key trends, forces, and phenomena that may have a potential impact on the formulation strategies (“Situation Audit Meaning,” p.1).” In light of same, I will ensure that I provide all the pertinent information in this audit so that everyone reading it will be able to familiarize themselves with the operations, structure, investments and performance of Capital One so that they can be in an informed position to make the best analysis of the Company.
CAPITAL ONE SITUATION AUDIT 5 Fact Sheet Capital One was formed in 1994 when Signet Financial Corp. spun off its credit card business into a separate subsidiary and created Capital One which was led by Richard D. Fairbank (“Fairbank”). At the time, Fairbank believed that the credit card industry was in dire need of a more integrated and scientific approach to marketing bank cards so he reached out to Nigel Morris, a fellow consultant at Strategic Planning Associates (later named Mercer Management Consulting) to team up with him and help construct one.
