The case study involves Helen, a wife and mother of three adult children of with whom Helen is caring for. Helen is also providing necessary care for her mother in law who recently suffered an injury increasing her care demands. Helen is described as increasingly anxious and exhausted due to marital problems, increased family demands and now the more intensive care necessary for her mother in law. Helen seeks assistance and develops a plan in hopes of relieving some of her duties and call on her son, Alec, for assistance. Alec is described as a 27-year-old grown man who is unemployed and struggling with issues of addiction (Plummer, 2014). Triangulation is seen in how the family remains dependent of one another, and the emotional fall out of Helen has adverse effects which the family is unable to overcome. Helen has an emotional connection to all parties and a vested interest in preserving her marriage, caring for and supporting her adult children and managing the care of her extended family, her mother in law, Magda.
